Another fine mess! Private Jonar Fryn Rann, son of Senate leader Rann has become embroiled in the Dubruy offensive debacle. His platoon is trapped in the village of Zolder. Orders from on high are clear; Private Rann must be saved at all costs.
Captain Millahr, you will take a small force to Zolder, retrieve Private Rann and return him to friendly lines.
What the Vilani don't know is that the Solomani are already all over the village!

The set-up was quite complex. The squad with Rann was trapped in the village
with their immobilised APC, while the rest of the platoon was coming back to
rescue them. One of the Solomani squads was allowed to set up anywhere on the
table more than 12" from a Vilani model and the rest of their platoon had to set
up on the opposite edge of the table from the Vilani platoon.
The Vilani have to get Private Rann off the board with a member of their HQ squad or as part of an unbroken squad.
The Solomani have to break (BR confidence or below half-strength) every Vilani element in proximity to the village.
It started well for the Solomani. The Vilani squad in the village held it's ground and was consequently shot at by everyone!
In the second turn the Vilani found discretion to be the better part of valour and made a break for it through the village. The Solomani squad in hiding in the village got in a few fairly ineffective shots, while the Solomani with their sniper took out the leader of the flanking unit of Vilani.
Eventually with Solomani and Vilani pouring into the village, Rann's squad made a run for open ground. The Vilani close assaulted the nearest Solomani unit (Confident Elite 1!) and got cut to ribbons. The average Vilani squad proceeded to deal death and destruction left, right and centre. Mainly left and right. The Solomani with the sniper were all but wiped out and they even managed to injure some of the elite squad.
In the end (merely 6" or so from the table edge), Private Rann was mown down with the rest of his squad by the elites support weapon, while the rest of the elites poured assault rifle fire into the remaining Vilani squad thus plucking victory from the jaws of defeat!
Actually, a great game. Change the title so you can't guess the objective of the good guys and anyone could play. Steve was a good sport though and said that he probably wouldn't have fired on Rann's squad if I hadn't egged him on (oops!). The two sides liked the idea that it wasn't a zero-sum game, i.e. both sides could win!
