GAUNTLET’04 6/7th November 2004

Ancients game in progressThis was the Deeside Defender’s first attempt at running a gaming convention with a difference – maximise the number of tables for anyone to game on.

Results?

Fairly successful as the club picked up new members and received a lot of positive feedback on the potential of the venue (we had only opened up one third of the available space and still had 24 tables available for playing on). In response to some of the Seven Years War game in progressfeedback we may be running a one day event in mid/late January 2005.

A large variety of games were played over the weekend, which is what we were aiming for. Games included WRG 6th Edition (25mm), DBM (15mm), Rapid Fire (20mm), Spearhead (1/300th), Silent Death, WizKids (Mechwarrior), Point 556 Modern Skirmish and more boardgames than I could count, including some originally only available from the States.

Attendance was down on what we had anticipated from the amount of advertising we had sent out to various magazines, clubs and shops in the World War 2 Game in progressNorth of England. This may have been due to a number of reasons such as the wet weather, the event coinciding with Guy Fawke’s night, Remembrance Day, a couple of one day events in the North and that we were a new event offering something different.

We are looking at an earlier date for the 2005 event and are considering opening up the format to include some participation games and competition gaming, most likely 6th Edition, Warhammer Ancient Battles and WizKids.

Further information will be posted on the Gauntlet section of the Deeside Defenders website.
